Message to BLI Clients and Partners on Karen Berman’s Passing

Karen BermanKaren Berman, founder of the Business Literacy Institute, passed away on July 14, 2013 after a long struggle with cancer. My colleagues and I have lost a partner, leader, colleague, and dear friend.

Karen had a burning passion for her work at BLI. A PhD in organizational psychology, she wrote a doctoral thesis showing that when employees and managers understand the numbers in their business, the company’s performance improves. BLI has benefited immeasurably from Karen’s commitment to adult learning and her meticulous attention to each client’s individual situation. Thanks to her efforts, BLI today is a strong business with a great team of writers, trainers, and managers. The team remains committed to Karen’s vision of dynamic financial training using adult learning techniques and customized materials.

Despite her illness, Karen never stopped living and doing what she loved. During her two-year battle with the disease, she and I wrote a revised edition of our bestselling book Financial Intelligence for Harvard Business Review Press. We developed a graphic novel based on the book. And of course she kept our business thriving, all while spending more time with her beloved husband, Young Riddle, and her beloved daughter, Marie.

Those who wish to remember Karen through a gift may send contributions to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
