I traveled to Hong Kong to bring some of the Sierra Wireless crew up to speed on some exciting finance concepts. My schedule started in Mainland China (Shenzhen) and then I moved on to train the Hong Kong team in the New Territory part of Hong Kong. The training was great. Shenzhen was very smoggy that day, but it was still a great day for finance.
Sierra Wireless is a small cap technology company. They are in a competitive market and are still battling to stay profitable. The Shenzhen office focuses mainly on product development and the engineers especially enjoyed the ratios and analysis part of the training. Not a lot of questions from the mainland group but they did get the math right and were a very appreciative class.
The Hong Kong Sierra team was more diverse. Sales, Operations, and Engineering were all there. The group asked lots of questions. There was a great deal of interest in the stock price and what drives that. Again the math came easy for this group. It seems anywhere I go outside of USA the math skills are better – interesting.
My host Ruby Chan was great. She escorted me into Shenzhen and attended the class there and then, again, hosted me in Hong Kong. She knew where to go and what to do in Hong Kong which was a great help! Great city with lots going on. It’s easy to spend money. If you make it to Hong Kong be sure to watch out for the Ladies Market and Stanley Market.
